Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2015 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale, which included the work Selim, A Grey Hunter In A Paddock by George Stubbs. It changed hands for a price of GBP 149,000.00 (€ 211,231.96) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Stubbs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 22,441,250.00 (€ 25,754,691.64).
