A top price for George Stubbs - as previously expected
The work Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad by George Stubbs was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings - Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000,000.00 – 30,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,441,250.00 (€ 25,754,691.64) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad is the most expensive artwork by George Stubbs that we have observed at auctions so far.
