Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Lord Grosvenor'S Sweet William In A Landscape by George Stubbs was worth GBP 349,250.00 (€ 418,276.21) to a buyer in December 2011. This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 70,000.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Stubbs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 22,441,250.00 (€ 25,754,691.64).
