Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Brood Mares And Foals by George Stubbs was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000,000.00 – 15,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 10,121,250.00 (€ 11,740,619.49) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Stubbs - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad, which sold at auction in July 2011 for GBP 22,441,250.00 (€ 25,754,691.64).
