This artwork by George Romney achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July this year. In the Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work A sketchbook of 12 sheets, rebound in a modern marbled paper binding, with new additional sheets at each end, including studies for: Portrait of Mrs Jackson; Melancholy; Portrait of Mrs Yeats; The Warren Family sold for GBP 20,160.00 (€ 23,520.61) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Romney achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Edward Wortley Montagu (1713–1776) in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,002,500.00 (€ 5,048,410.94).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Romney erzielen.
