Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The New Vitruvius Britannnicus: Volume II: Eight Plates by George Richardson was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,434.00 (€ 1,367.67). Other works by George Richardson have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in March 2004 by the work The New Vitruvius Britannicus: Six Plates at USD 3,107.00 (€ 2,527.66).
