Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Die drei heiligen Frauen (am Grabe) (The Three Holy Women (At the Tomb)) by George Minne was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 107,100.00 (€ 125,992.95). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by George Minne; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot L'Agenouillé de la fontaine: de geknielde aan de bron sold at auction in November 2009 with the realized price of EUR 217,000.00.
