Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Leeds, New York by George Inness was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 275,000.00 (€ 259,973.53). Admittedly, works by George Inness have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sunset on the River in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 1,945,000.00 (€ 1,250,000.00).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Leeds, New York von George Inness im November 2016 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 500.000,00 – 700.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 275.000,00 (€ 259.973,53) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Inness auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Sunset on the River im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.945.000,00 (€ 1.250.000,00).
