Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Picnic in the Woods, Montclair, New Jersey by George Inness was auctioned at Christies in New York in January last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 47,500.00 (€ 42,365.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Inness achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sunset on the River in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 1,945,000.00 (€ 1,250,000.00).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Picnic in the Woods, Montclair, New Jersey von George Inness im Januar letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 47.500,00 (€ 42.365,32) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Inness erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Sunset on the River im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.945.000,00 (€ 1.250.000,00).
