Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Villa Arcomatic, Lake Como by George Henry Smillie was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 4,750.00 (€ 4,077.95). Admittedly, works by George Henry Smillie have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Coastal Scene, New York in March 2007 with an auction result of USD 36,000.00 (€ 26,917.90).
