Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2021 Bonhams in London held the auction Modern & Contemporary African Art, which included the work Contrapposto in blue by Geoffrey Mukasa. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,737.50 (€ 6,740.08) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Geoffrey Mukasa - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fisherwoman, which sold at auction in March 2021 for GBP 12,112.50 (€ 14,229.07).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im März 2021 führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Modern & Contemporary African Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Contrapposto in blue von Geoffrey Mukasa zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 5.737,50 (€ 6.740,08) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Geoffrey Mukasa mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Fisherwoman beobachtet, die im März 2021 für GBP 12.112,50 (€ 14.229,07) versteigert wurde.
