In January last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings & Sculpture Part I, which included the work A bearded man, bust-length in profile, wearing a brown coat by Gaetano Gandolfi. The »bidding war« ended at USD 818,600.00 (€ 730,110.60), 64% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Gaetano Gandolfi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Diana and Callisto in January 2010 with an auction result of USD 4,114,500.00 (€ 2,966,474.41).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 64 % übertroffen
Im Januar letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Master Paintings & Sculpture Part I durch, in der auch die Arbeit A bearded man, bust-length in profile, wearing a brown coat von Gaetano Gandolfi zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 818.600,00 (€ 730.110,60) und damit 64% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gaetano Gandolfi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Diana and Callisto im Januar 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 4.114.500,00 (€ 2.966.474,41).
