Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An elegant lady writing at her desk, with a dog beside her by Gabriel Metsu was sold in the Important Old Master Paintings auction at Christies in New York in January 2000. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 420,500.00 (€ 430,972.64) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gabriel Metsu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Woman Selling Game From A Stall, which sold at auction in July 2009 for GBP 1,161,250.00 (€ 1,317,670.67).
