Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Notary Sharpening His Pen, In An Interior by Gabriel Metsu was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 43,750.00 (€ 52,624.46) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gabriel Metsu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Woman Selling Game From A Stall in July 2009 with an auction result of GBP 1,161,250.00 (€ 1,317,670.67).
