FRED MCDARRAH (1926-2007) Yayoi Kusama Body Painting Performance, c. 1960s eight ferrotyped gelatin silver prints each signed and stamped 'VINTAGE PRINT', reproduction limitation, and also stamped with photographer's studio credit in ink; two titled in pencil and ink, variously numbered in ink and pencil (verso) each image/sheet: 7 1 ⁄ 2 x 4 5 ⁄ 8 in. (19 x 11.7 cm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Fred McDarrah could be acquired at Christies in London in October this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection auction, the work Yayoi Kusama Body Painting Performance, c. 1960s changed hands for USD 1,512.00 (€ 1,430.73) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Admittedly, works by Fred McDarrah have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Andy Warhol with his Cow Wallpaper, Castelli Gallery, April 1, 1966 in October this year with an auction result of USD 6,300.00 (€ 5,961.39).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Fred McDarrah konnte im Oktober diesen Jahres bei Christies in London für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection wechselte die Arbeit Yayoi Kusama Body Painting Performance, c. 1960s für USD 1.512,00 (€ 1.430,73) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Fred McDarrah auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Andy Warhol with his Cow Wallpaper, Castelli Gallery, April 1, 1966 im Oktober diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.300,00 (€ 5.961,39).
