FRED MCDARRAH (1926-2007) Four artist's portraits,1961-1967 four gelatin silver prints each signed, titled and dated in ink (margins); four stamped photographer's studio credit, three also signed, titled, and dated with reproduction limitations in ink and pencil; two also stamped 'VINTAGE PRINT' (verso); one credited, titled and dated on affixed gallery label (mat backing board) each image approximately: 13 x 19 1 ⁄ 8 in. (33 x 48.5 cm.) each sheet: 16 x 20 in. (40.6 x 50.8 cm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
In October this year a collector was able to acquire the work Four artist's portraits,1961-1967 by Fred McDarrah for USD 2,520.00 (€ 2,384.56). This price was achieved in the auction A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Fred McDarrah - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Andy Warhol with his Cow Wallpaper, Castelli Gallery, April 1, 1966, which sold at auction in October this year for USD 6,300.00 (€ 5,961.39).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Oktober diesen Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Four artist's portraits,1961-1967 von Fred McDarrah für USD 2.520,00 (€ 2.384,56) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection bei Christies in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Fred McDarrah mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Andy Warhol with his Cow Wallpaper, Castelli Gallery, April 1, 1966 beobachtet, die im Oktober diesen Jahres für USD 6.300,00 (€ 5.961,39) versteigert wurde.
