Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Squire Osbaldeston's celebrated trotter 'Tom Thumb' racing against time by Francis Calcraft Turner was sold in the IN THE FIELD - An Important Private Collection of Sporting Art auction at Christies in London in December 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,750.00 (€ 9,159.59) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Calcraft Turner - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A gentleman driving in a landscape; and A lady riding with a companion in a landscape, which sold at auction in November 2002 for GBP 14,340.00 (€ 22,455.70).
