Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2001 Christies in London held the auction Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the, which included the work Lady Seaforth (née Mary Proby), seated in a red upholstered chair, in black dress with triple lace collar, sprigged lace bordered white bonnet tied with striped green ribbons in her dark curling hair by François Théodore Rochard. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 646.25 (€ 1,028.39) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by François Théodore Rochard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A young child, facing right in pale brown coat and cream coloured collar, wearing a black hat with a red flower, which sold at auction in July 2001 for GBP 1,880.00 (€ 3,061.44).
