Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work White and black grapes in a wicker basket, surrounded by gourds, chestnuts, peaches, raspberries and blackberries by François Joseph Huygens was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in September 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 1,875.00. Admittedly, works by François Joseph Huygens have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Roses, Tulips And Other Flowers In A Vase With Plums And A Bird'S Nest On A Wooden Ledge in December 2003 with an auction result of USD 9,560.00 (€ 7,589.11).
