A young boy, facing left in double-breasted blue coat with copper buttons, white stock with knotted muslin cravat, short curly light brown hair
signed with initials 'FF.' (lower left)
oval, 2½ in. (63 mm.) high, silver-gilt frame, the glazed reverse set with a lock of hair tied with gold wire and seed-pearls on an opalescent guilloché glass ground within a border of gold, seed pearls and translucent blue and opaque white enamel, surrounded by plaited hair within a gilt-metal border

In November 2001 Christies in London held the auction Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the, which included the work A young boy, facing left in double-breasted blue coat with copper buttons, white stock with knotted muslin cravat, short curly light brown hair by François Ferrière. The price achieved of GBP 2,350.00 (€ 3,739.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by François Ferrière achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A youth wearing a hat and holding a picture in April 2017 with an auction result of USD 87,500.00 (€ 80,312.07).
