Auction result well in line with expectations
In February this year Christies in London held the auction An Opulent Aesthetic: An Important Private Collection from an English Country House, which included the work Men-o'war anchored in the Hamoaze, Plymouth docks and coastline beyond by Francis Swaine. The price achieved of GBP 10,080.00 (€ 11,497.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Swaine - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An English Squadron In St Aubin'S Bay, Jersey, which sold at auction in December 2006 for GBP 28,800.00 (€ 42,742.81).
