Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portuguese The Public Gardens by Francis Smith was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings including Spanish Painting, The Orientalist Sale, and German, Austrian, Scandinavian and Symbolist Works auction at Sothebys in London in November 2009. The price achieved of GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,377.48) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Scene Villageoise Au Portugal in February 2007 with an auction result of EUR 49,329.00.
