This artwork by Francis Cotes achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2007. In the British Art on Paper auction, the work Portrait of The Hon. Mrs Bridget Gunning, Half Length, In A Blue Ruffled Gown sold for GBP 2,160.00 (€ 3,205.33) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 422,500.00 (€ 532,905.34).
