Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Jemima Yorke (1763-1804), when a young girl, three-quarter length, holding a basket of fruit and cherries by Francis Cotes was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2021. It changed hands for a price of GBP 18,900.00 (€ 22,164.17) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 422,500.00 (€ 532,905.34).
