Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Peter Pennington Legh, of Booths Hall, Cheshire, half-length, in Van Dyck costume by Francis Cotes was sold in the British Art on Paper auction at Christies in London in December 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 9,190.05) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 422,500.00 (€ 532,905.34).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 422.500,00 (€ 532.905,34).
