The work Portrait of Mary Dering, seated, three-quarter-length, in an oyster satin dress with gold trim, holding a mirror, in a landscape by Francis Cotes was sold in the Old Master and British Pictures and Old Master Drawings auction at Christies in London in April 2007. It achieved a price of GBP 13,200.00 (€ 19,326.50), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 65%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 422,500.00 (€ 532,905.34).
