Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Alice, Countess Of Shipbrook by Francis Cotes was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Sothebys in New York in June 2011. The price achieved of USD 50,000.00 (€ 34,428.15) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 422,500.00 (€ 532,905.34).
