Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a lady traditionally identified as Miss Dering (d. 1816), bust-length, in an ochre silk dress and lace collar by Francis Cotes was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 2,869.12). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Cotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 422,500.00 (€ 532,905.34).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Master Smith, full-length, in a mauve coat and breeches, his right hand resting on a kite, in a landscape im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 422.500,00 (€ 532.905,34).
