Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Still Life Of Roses, Tulips, Anemones And Peonies In A Vase Ornamented With A Grotesque Mask by Francesco Mantovano was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,250.00 (€ 9,640.10). Admittedly, works by Francesco Mantovano have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Carnations, lilies, narcissi, convolvulus and other flowers in a sculpted urn on a stone ledge; and Tulips, roses, carnations and convolvulus in a sculpted urn on a stone ledge in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 45,600.00 (€ 67,676.11).
