Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Orpheus Charming The Animals by Francesco da Ponte was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in June 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 45,000.00 (€ 33,284.02). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francesco da Ponte - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a bearded gentleman, half-length, in a black doublet with a white collar, which sold at auction in June last year for USD 88,200.00 (€ 84,248.73).
