Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work View Of Camden Mountains From Penobscot Bay by Fitz Henry Lane was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 600,000.00 – 800,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 482,500.00 (€ 336,659.22). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Fitz Henry Lane achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Golden Rule in May 2000 with an auction result of USD 3,966,000.00 (€ 4,251,715.27).
