Auction result well in line with expectations
The work French Brittany Washerwomen On The Edge Of The River by Fernand Marie Eugène Legout-Gérard was sold in the 19th Century European Art including The Orientalist Sale auction at Sothebys in New York in April 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 21,250.00 (€ 13,649.79) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Fernand Marie Eugène Legout-Gérard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Breton Figures in a Landscape, which sold at auction in May 2001 for USD 41,125.00 (€ 48,639.86).
