Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Marilyn Monroe in New York, 1961 by Eve Arnold was auctioned at Christies in London in June this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,772.00 (€ 3,226.13). Admittedly, works by Eve Arnold have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Marilyn, 1955-1960 in December 2008 with an auction result of USD 31,250.00 (€ 22,451.33).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Marilyn Monroe in New York, 1961 von Eve Arnold im Juni diesen Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 2.772,00 (€ 3.226,13) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Eve Arnold auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Marilyn, 1955-1960 im Dezember 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 31.250,00 (€ 22.451,33).
