In June 2003 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art including Orientalist Pictures, which included the work By the edge of the lagoon, Venice; A harbour on a Venetian island by Eugenio Benvenuti. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,350.00 (€ 3,377.08), 18% above the upper estimate. With this result, By the edge of the lagoon, Venice; A harbour on a Venetian island is even the most expensive work of art by Eugenio Benvenuti that we have observed at auctions so far.
