Artwork auctioned at ten times the upper estimate price
When the work Three Illustrations From Canticum Canticorum by Eric Gill was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2016, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than ten times as high at GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,324.14). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Eric Gill achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work St Joan of Arc in June 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,210,500.00 (€ 3,116,777.25).
