In November 2004 Christies in London held the auction Victorian Pictures, which included the work Gibraltar; From The Series 'Daughters Of Our Empire' High On The Rock That Fronts The Sea Stands Alone Our Fortress Key Lady Of The Southern Main by Edwin Long. The price achieved of GBP 16,730.00 (€ 24,066.01) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edwin Long achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Ancient Custom in May 2000 with an auction result of USD 776,000.00 (€ 831,903.95).
