Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Lady Called Mrs Merry, In White Dress With Frilled Collar And Blue Sash, Blue Bandeau In Her Powdered Curling Hair; Sky Background by Edward Miles was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,504.21). Admittedly, works by Edward Miles have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A gentleman facing right in grey coat with brass buttons, white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered hair en queue; and his young son, facing right in white shirt with large frilled collar and red jacket, curling fair hair (by Thomas Hull) in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 4,935.00 (€ 7,984.70).
