Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction Important Miniatures from a Private Collection, which included the work Portrait Of Miss Frances (Fanny) Kemble, Afterwards Mrs Twiss (1759-1822) by Edward Miles. The price achieved of GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,187.15) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Edward Miles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A gentleman facing right in grey coat with brass buttons, white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered hair en queue; and his young son, facing right in white shirt with large frilled collar and red jacket, curling fair hair (by Thomas Hull), which sold at auction in April 2002 for GBP 4,935.00 (€ 7,984.70).
