The work Portrait of an Indian by Edgar Samuel Paxson was sold in the CALIFORNIA, WESTERN AND AMERICAN PAINTINGS auction at Christies in Los Angeles in May 2001. The price achieved of USD 4,112.50 (€ 4,863.99) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edgar Samuel Paxson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The War Party in May last year with an auction result of USD 283,500.00 (€ 264,187.87).
