Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a gentleman, three-quarter-length, in a suit of armour etched with gold, his right hand resting on his helmet by Domenico Robusti was sold in the Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2016. The price achieved of GBP 62,500.00 (€ 74,263.52) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Admittedly, works by Domenico Robusti have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A group portrait of four Venetian senators, bust-length in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 341,000.00 (€ 398,684.33).
