Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Peasants smoking and drinking in a tavern by David Teniers II was sold in the Master Paintings & Sculpture Part I auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 415,800.00 (€ 342,645.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Teniers II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Wine Harvest |《葡萄酒收穫》 in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 3,645,000.00 (€ 4,071,789.86).
