Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An Equestrian Portrait Of An Officer Of The 1St Troop Of Horse Grenadier Guards On A Bay Charger, With A Trooper To The Right by David Morier was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in May 2018. The price achieved of GBP 13,750.00 (€ 15,657.56) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by David Morier - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Equestrian portrait of Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721-1765), full-length, mounted on his bay charger, in a blue coat, white breeches, black hat and the sash of the Order of the Bath, a view of the River Thames beyond, which sold at auction in July 2016 for GBP 43,750.00 (€ 51,984.46).
