This artwork by David Goldblatt achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in March 2021. In the Modern and Contemporary African Art auction, the work A barber's chair of mining timbers, outside a compound on the Luipaardsvlei Estates, Krugersdorp, 1965 sold for GBP 6,930.00 (€ 8,140.96) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by David Goldblatt have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Selected Images of South Africa in October 2017 with an auction result of USD 60,000.00 (€ 51,510.99).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von David Goldblatt erzielte im März 2021 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Modern and Contemporary African Art wurde die Arbeit A barber's chair of mining timbers, outside a compound on the Luipaardsvlei Estates, Krugersdorp, 1965 für GBP 6.930,00 (€ 8.140,96) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 3.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von David Goldblatt auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Selected Images of South Africa im Oktober 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 60.000,00 (€ 51.510,99).
