The work Three Old Women beating the Devil (B. 71; Holl. 80) by Daniel Hopfer was sold in the Old Master, Modern & Contemporary Prints, including Property from the Estate of Ernst Beyeler auction at Christies in London in September 2011. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,043.05), 67% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Daniel Hopfer; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Saint George on Horseback slaying the Dragon sold at auction in January this year with the realized price of USD 41,580.00 (€ 38,294.35).
