Artwork auctioned at seven times the upper estimate price
When the work Calligraphic Couplet by Dai Jitao was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in November 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than seven times as high at HKD 225,000.00 (€ 24,292.77). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Dai Jitao - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Calligraphy - Buddhist Scriptures, which sold at auction in May 2021 for HKD 875,000.00 (€ 92,494.26).
