Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work The Van Wittenhorst Triptych: the central panel, lower: The Adoration of the Shepherds; the central panel, upper: A herald angel; the wings: Virgin Annunciate; and the Angel of the Annunciation by Cornelis van Poelenburgh was worth GBP 60,000.00 (€ 65,876.01) to a buyer in July 2019. This price was achieved in the auction Old Masters Day Sale at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Cornelis van Poelenburgh; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Self-portrait sold at auction in January 2021 with the realized price of GBP 100,800.00 (€ 113,990.80).
