Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Cornelia Huysmans, bust-length, in a feigned oval by Cornelis Jonson van Ceulen was sold in the Old Master Paintings & Sculpture Online auction at Christies in London in July last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,820.00 (€ 10,532.65) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Cornelis Jonson van Ceulen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Lady Corbett, Half-Length, In A Black Dress Adorned With Pink Rosettes And A Reticella Lace Collar, Cartwheel Ruff And Headdress, In A Feigned Oval in April 2016 with an auction result of GBP 158,500.00 (€ 202,610.13).
