This artwork by Clara Peeters achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2001. In the Old Master Pictures auction, the work Slices of butter on a Wanli 'kraak' porselein plate, on a cheesestack on a pewter plate, with a jug, a façon-de-Venise wineglass, a bun, crayfish on a pewter plate, a knife and shrimps on a table sold for GBP 498,750.00 (€ 814,888.36) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 200,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Clara Peeters; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Roses, Lilies, An Iris And Other Flowers In An Earthenware Vase, With A Pot Of Carnations And A Butterfly On A Ledge sold at auction in June last year with the realized price of USD 1,500,000.00 (€ 1,432,801.60).
