This artwork by Chuah Thean Teng achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2016. In the Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art auction, the work Market Scene sold for HKD 287,500.00 (€ 32,391.18) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 150,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Chuah Thean Teng; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Gotong Royong sold at auction in May 2016 with the realized price of HKD 325,000.00 (€ 37,563.99).
