Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Norwegian Kystvakten (Coastguards) by Christian Krohg was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings including German, Austrian & Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and The Scandinavian Sale auction at Sothebys in London in June 2009. It changed hands for a price of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,801.00) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Christian Krohg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Norwegian leif Eriksson Oppdager Amerika (Leif Eriksson Discovers America) in June 2010 with an auction result of GBP 205,250.00 (€ 249,603.10).
